It's not just teenagers, it is just a bit more intense for them. We all care about what other people think of us - it is human nature. The difference in teenagers and adults is that adults have become better (more practice) at hiding thier true feelings.

I am different than my friends at school, by a long shot. I don't care for rap crap, or any music that presents ideas that oppose my beliefs. Believe it or not, my friends and I are all the same religion, but our morals differ greatly.

However, there are many teens who go through peer pressure. A kid came up to me (that I knew a little bit) and told me that he wanted to jump off a bridge because his friend did. A couple weeks later, I asked him to stop acting immature on the bus, and he said, "but they're doing it." That was the most stupid phrase ever said to me. (Oh, he went to my church also!)

So, there you go. Many people aren't affected, like me. Others feel the pressure to be like someone else.

When you're a teenager, you want so badly to fit in, to be part of the group, that you will do almost anything to get your friends' approval.
Why do we do it? I think it is part of the process of growing up and finding your place in the world. During puberty, all of our emotions seem to be amplified.
Personally, as I grew up, I realized that my choices in life were not the same as my peers', but that it did not matter as long as I did no harm. So, I have lived a life that is different from that of most men, but that is uniquely my own.

Because the pressure of fitting in pounds on you. Any teen would rather have someone being thier friend than them saying "Dude, That ain't cool"
