The left regard anyone who does not agree with them as right wing and, therefore, must be vilified. The left are idelogically driven, are unpatriotic, care more about spreading their dogma rather than protecting the interests of their own country. Ironically they wouldn't be allowed to do this in the sort of country they seem to be trying to promote.
Communist Russia was regarded as left wing. It controlled the means of production, hated capitalism and democracy and also religion. People were controlled with an iron fist, their first duty being to the state and not to each other or their families. Individuals were expected to inform on each other, thus, creating a climate of fear.
Natzi Germany is usually regarded as an example of extreme right wing politics. Here centralised control of the armed forces and police ensured that people subscribed to the view that they were superior to the peoples of other countries. (Nationalism)
Both systems like centralised control. To that extent they are similar. The term " Right Wing " is misused by much of the television media to include people who are patriotic and simply want to retain the values they grew up with. This is not right wing but centre ground commonsense.
Left wing politics, in recent times, has become something of an umbrella term which, in addition to the old left, can be said to include feminism, political correctness, europhiles, human rights etc. etc. They are a bit smarter than they used to be in that they allow the private sector to exist but control it by never ending legislation.
If you want to find examples of the modern left wing politics and social engineering look no further than Education, Town Halls, Legal profession, Most of the television media, police, in fact most of the public sector. The huge increase in the influence of women in the workplace and society generally has spawned a massive increase in the influence of left wing politics. They can share out the cake but despise the baker who makes them.
You will realise that you have asked a very big question which would warrent a whole book.

In US politics, the democaratic party generally has a left wing or liberal platform while the Republican has a right wing or conservative platform. The platform is where the party stands on key issues.
On the right you have these opinions, generally: free trade, less welfare (more incentives to get up off the sofa and get a job), no farm subsidies, less gun restrictions for law abiding citizens, lower taxes and less government programs, security even if it violates some civil liberties, lower corporate taxes, less national healthcare, in general less government. Liberals or "the left" are opposite. However, most people tend to be closer to the middle ground. they are moderates. They might not take the party line on all issues but agree left on some and right on others. In the EU I find the governments and the people are to the left for the most part. There are large social welfare programs and the governments have their hands in just about everything. Take national airlines. Why do governments need to operate airlines? Governments should govern. The private sector should be operating the airlines.

You've opened up a can of worms here. Generally speaking, left wing politics tend to be more liberal, while right wing politics tend to be more conservative.
The problem we encounter with politics in America (and why people are so disenchanted with it) is that these days, many politicians recognize the need to have a broad appeal toward all voters, liberal or conservative. Thus they tend to take a "jack-of-all-trades" approach with their campaigning.
Many people feel there is no difference between liberals and conservatives, however, if you dig deeply enough you will find many issues for which they cannot find agreeance.

The left wing is more about socialism, whereas the right wing is basically fascist. Although with the way things are going there isn't much difference between the two.

You may have heard the phrase, don't discuss politics and / or religion. (it will eventually turn in to fight).
But politics is basically a religion that's applied to society. That's why for hundreds of years it was understood that church / state were one-in-the-same. Because they are.
Politics answers the question "how do we make our lives better" and as many different folks out there, - there's that many different answers.
You see a woman on the corner asking for money, politics may see this as a problem. Liberals may want to tax (steal) from the rich folks to build a house and manage the house for this woman, and others like her. Conservatives may view the govn't intevention as wasteful, and instead hope other citizens help or that she helps herself.
Both groups want to make society 'better', - each have a concept of the nature of mankind.

That is a very good question. It's the answer that will be different depending on where you stand.
Right Wing is supposed to be conservative and left wing is supposed to be liberal at least by todays standards.
Right wingers are supposed to be for moral values which have a basis in religion and left wingers are supposed to be for moral values based on humanist philosophy.
Right wingers are supposed to be for taking responsibility for your own actions and left wingers are supposed to be for blaming every thing on someone else. (That's a joke)
Right wingers are supposed to be for the least government and taxes necessary and left wingers are supposed to be for government telling everyone what to do and then making them pay for it by taxing the rich. (Where I have a problem here is I don't like anyone telling me what to do AND I keep getting classed as rich--Which I'm not. Unless you class 60K income as rich.)

On issues they are opposite, as answered above. The way they act is very similar, Rush Limbaugh/Ann Coulter and Micheal Moore/Al Franken have much in common. In my view the far right and left are hate driven. They don't care about truth, they only wish to degrade the opposition. And the people who follow these media icons, they are sheep. The sheep give them power, the sheep are the problem.
