Last year was a world cup of upsets, most of the teams went out early so some of the smaller nations capitalized, Turkey was one such. They overachieved last time around. They didnt even make it to Euro 2004 , then also they were in the toughest qulifying group with Greece, Denmark & Ukraine. Also some of the instrumental players like Hakan Sukur have retired.

Finished second in Group 2 in UEFA qualifying, lost the playoff to Switzerland on away goals (Swiss beat Turks 2-0 in Bern, Turks won 4-2 in Istanbul).

Maybe they weren't as good this year. Cause England isn't very good this year. Maybe they didn't practice as much and didn't make it.
