i read sooo many genres that i can only recoommend the authors who r consistently gud so here goes:
Horror:James Herbert, Dean Koontz, Ann Rice
Chick Lit:Jill Mansell, Carmen Reid, Maryjanice Davidson
Crime:Steve Martini, Patricia Cornwell
Fantasy:Terry Pratchett (try his Discworld series uve got 2 start wiv Light Fantastic & the Colour of Magic)

try 100 years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez its a classic
my favourite book ever
but if your looking for something along the same lines try Amandas Wedding by Jenny Colman hilarious

My favourite authors include Erica James - Love and devotion is brilliant, Jane Green - All her stuff and Marian Keyes - also brilliant.
