Completely different cars.....

Like comparing a Ford 500 to a Dodge Viper....

As far as cars go, I have owned many Alfas and I have never had any problems. Of course, most people will rip Alfas even though they have never driven or seen one....

If you have the money to buy a Porshe, then go for it. Otherwise, an Alfa Romeo is also a very good choice.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Which one really gets you exited. When it comes to exotic cars, do you want the one that you see on every street corner? Or is it that unique beautiful style that gets it for you? I have owned both a 911 Turbo Porsche and an Alfa Romeo Montreal. The Alfa was the fastest by far, and the hardest to maintain and find parts for. However it never ever did not immediately start a conversation since there were only a few imported into the US. The Porsche on the other and was reliable and I would often see my counterpart passing in the other direction.

It's an uneven comparison. Alfa Romeo at the moment doesn't have any car at the same segment as the Porsche.
The top model, the Brera is positioned in the same level of Nissan 350Z and Mazda RX8 and similar cars, which is one step lower than Porsche 911 Series (but close to Cayman and Z4 roadster, even though these are pure sportscars rather than GT cars).
Therefore, i'd say you should buy a Brera if you want a car that has an elegant, sporty, style with high performances but with a decent level of comfort and space, while you should buy a Porsche if you're looking for a car to drive at certain speeds and to have some fun on some tracks.
For those who call Alfa Romeo's underengineered cars i'd invite them to try out one before speaking by stereotypes. As a matter of fact if even doubt those who criticize cars without having ever driven any of that segment in real life drive a Trabant or a Prinz.
The new generation of Alfa Romeos (159/Brera/Spider. Try one and tell me if you can call those UNDER ENGINEERED, provided someone will let you try one) is almost at the same level of BMW, one step lower than Audi but one step forward than VW. German cars of late have been losing some of their acclaimed reliability, especially Mercedes and VW but also BMW is not exempt from problems.
That said, porsche was, is and will be an example of perfect engineering on wheels and a great compromise for everyday use, differently from cars like Ferrari and Lambos, which draw too much attention and have different maintenance costs.

You are compaing an apple to an orange. Other than the fact that Porsche is a much more expensive car, it is a better car than an Alfa Romeo from any angle and measurement.

Thank you Ricky, I have to agree. The Alfa drives like no other. It is quite the piece of machinery. I have one sitting in my driveway. 1987 Alfa Romeo Milano. My boyfriend would be buried in it if he could. So there isn't a comparison between the Porsche, and an Alfa. Two completely different cars, two different countries, different capabilities, and they both cost tons of money to repair. I would hate to meet the person that said underengineered Alfa. What? He just bumped his head. He should go drive one. You know that saying: Don't knock it til you try it.

I have had them both, There is absolutly no doubt that the Porsche is far better than the Alfa. They should not even be considered in same category.

A Porsche every time, because unlike the Alfa, it's not a rusty pile of under-engineered cheap cr@p!
