Hello

I recently went to a medical leb where I had my blood drawn for a blood test. The problem is that I want paying attention and I didnt see the nurse if she opened a new syringe or she used an old one. I am really scared that I might have been infected with some disease if the syringe was old and used on somebody else.

I am sure that the syringe used was disposable so my question is that is it possible for the syringe to be used by mistake? Can the nurse not notice that the syringe was used before and thur reuse it? Or even, can they reuse it on purpose?

Thanks for your help

Yes, syringes can be reused, but if your medical lab is reputable in any way, they'll give you a new one. If in the rare case of them needing to be reused, they would have been put through a process to sterilize it.

I think you are worrying too much. Most medical labs make a lot of money off of you, and they can afford to buy syringes for individual use, especially since they probably buy them in groups of thousands at a time and get them dirt cheap.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!! nurses, nor doctors cannot reuse syringes due to the germs and other viruses or contaminated blood content it may have! once the syringe is used, it should immediately be disposed in a needles bin.

The person drawing your blood could have gotten the syringe out of the sterile packaging right before you came in, to prepare. I would not worry.

I highly doubt you are in any danger. They usually throw those things away immediately after use.
