You dont need really need an antivirus to detect whether you have a virus, worm, spyware or trojan in your computer.

Try opening your computer. If your system is very slow and you havent process or open any application or you noticed that your LAN port/ Hardisk LED is blinking rapidly, there is a high risk that your computer is infected. Run an antivirus (preferably Norton or McAfee or from Trend Micro) to delete them. For spyware get Spybot or Microsoft Antispyware.

If the virus/ spyware is very hard to eliminate I would suggest that you reformat your PC and reinstall your OS. Avoid installing software that has spyware and avoid visiting sites that installs malicious programs.

The very best thing to do if you expect this is to disconnect your internet connection. Many of the worms communicate through your connection and can even re-infect your system after you delete them. A huge problem now is Rootkits...if your spyware protection does not protect from these you need to invest in a new one such as Webroot Spysweeper in conjunction with a good firewall/ & AV. I'm prone to McAfee but PC-Cillin is every bit as good.

do a full system scan with your update antivirus software. also, consider downloading spyware software. If this doesnt help, ask the pro's at www.tech1repair.com, they sometimes offer info for free. But everynow and then, depending on the difficulty of the problem, they'll charge a $5 fee. Which is not bad for great info.

Turn off your system (PC), and boot up with a bootable CD that has antivirus on it. Or you can boot to install a second system partition and load new antivirus to scan. Goto to www.trendmicro.com to scan your pc online.
