Marathon (Marathonas in Greek) is the name of the village. Marathon is the name given to the race in honour of the runner (Pheidippides - there is a street in Athens named after him).

Olympia has nothing to do with this.

The historical information given on the battle against the persian army in 490BC is correct.

Marathonas actually means a place where fennel (Foeniculum vulgare, marathos) grows.
