What is this question about? Four - I could name a couple of hundred, starting with the hundred or so students I teach each day and their safety and well being. we put in numerous hours preparing lessons only to have students slap us in the face and spit on us because they think they already know it all. We then take time each evening and weekend to grade hundreds of papers (thousands each year) of many students who did not care to listen in class. (Not all students fall here - but many recruit to their oppositional side.) We then make phone calls upon phone calls about student behavior, grades, and well being. We are responsible if a child gets hurt, and likewise if another student hurts someone, we are responsible for letting it happen. We are responsible for everything - need I continue?

1. Instruct- they teach students, thus why they are teachers
2. Role model- encourage the students from doing stupid things, such as drugs
3. Assess student's knowledge- give them tests to see how much students know
4. Companion- a lot of students talk to their teachers about problems that they might be having, so teachers are kind of like a starting point for counseling.

To love the children you teach.
Otherwise you will not be able to teach them anything because you will not be able to reach them or get their attention.

To form the characters of the children you teach.
You are as important as the parents of the children. They are in your hands and you are one of their role models. How you form their character will have strong influence on their further life.

To teach the children values.
As you yourself have principles and values in life so you have to teach the children. The more you keep on reminding them of good things the more they will respond positively.

To discipline the children.
There is nothing more important in life than discipline. Without it the human relation and interaction will become a disaster. It is your first duty to teach them how to live with one another.
