Some of the original CD's i purchase from reouted stores do not work with my PS2, what can be wrong?

I've had a faulty copy of GT4, and if you call Sony Tech Support (provided you have the reciept for the game), they can replace it. It took me 2 times to get a copy that worked, so first-time success isn't garunteed.
