I'm a certified Senior Phlebotomist. Men should donate blood because contrary to popular belief, too much iron in the blood can actually be harmful to your health and may cause cardiac problems later on in life.

Women through menstruation every 28 days release harmful chemicals of the body such as excess iron and serves as a rest from the body to create and rejuvenate fresh new red blood cells to circulate through out the body.

Yes, do yourself and other people who are sick patients a favor and donate blood every 2 months, not only do I work in blood banking, I participate in employee blood drives whenever I can.

There is one blood disorder where the body manufactures too much blood though I can not remember it's name right off the top of my head.
This is the ONLY time where losing blood is considered to be healthy.
An individual that has this disorder does infact have to have blood taken periodically to get their volume down to a safe level.

Like many other respondents have told you, it is healthy if you are considering being a donor or if you are shedding the endometrial lining of your uterus, which means being on your menses. Donation centers screen and evaluate you to assure that you can donate blood without doing harm to you or anyone else. Blood carries oxygen and nutrients to all the tissues in your body and carries away waste. Allowing yourself to bleed for the sake of just bleeding does not make sense. If you have good health, you are fortunate, don't flaunt it by doing needless things to yourself.

There is only one condition that loss of blood is useful for: Polycythaemia Rubra Vera (PCV).
It's a type of blood disorder that leads to AML (acute myeloid leukaemia). There is over growth of red blood cells that can be temporarily relieved by loss of blood to reduce the number of red cells back to normal levels.

No, unless of course you need dialysis for a kidney problem but even then you are simply removing impurities from the blood and not actually losing any.
