I live in condos with two neighboors on the sides of me and one that lives in the loft above my house. The person that live up above me has wood flooring in the house with a 2 year old kid & a girlfriend. All day long the stomp, throw things on the ground & run around. I work at night & get home in the morning around 6 a.m. It all starts around 7 or 8 in the morning & lasts all day long untill I go to work at night. That means I might get maybe 2 or 3 hours asleep a day. I have asked him on 3 seperate times to please stop being so loud. I can understand that kids are kids & they are hyper by nature but I shouldn't have to listen to this everyday when I get home from working an 8 hour(sometimes 10 or 11) hour shifts. All I want to do is come home & relax, not to have my house sound like a bowling alley. This has been going on for about 4 months now & I can't talk to them anymore about it because it seems like they just don't care. Please tell me what to do if anything. Thank you

I see you have been polite and asked three times for their consideration. Now I think you need to make it formal and do it with a letter they must sign for. I understand your need for sleep and some piece but being a mom myself that is difficult with small children. I would in the letter suggest outings to the park, or even installing carpeting to muffle the sound but be diplomatic about it. Nothing like warring neighbors to make life even more miserable then lack of sleep. If that does not work then you will have no other recourse then to get some one to fight this for you. I am sure they are reasonable people or we can hope they are. I just got done giving my neighbor a letter myself. He has a coon hound that barks all night long. Mind you he is newly married with a baby and works the late shift. His wife goes out at night with the child and no one is there to attend to the poor dog. I feel bad for the dog but my fiancee works 12 hour shifts from 3 a.m. till 4p.m. and he is finding lack of sleep a drag too. I hope with my situation it works and last night was or seemed to be a good indicator. I hope you will be able to resolve your problem with a letter too.

I had the same problem with a jerk that played drums all night. Talking to him did not help. Since I hat to get up at 3 in the morning I was always exhausted. So I decided to return the favor. At 3 every morning he was "serenaded" with loud music (speakers turned against his bedroom wall). Blasting him awake about the time he was ready for bed! Only took 3 days of this before he apologized and I never heard the drums again.
