The train's speed is 45km/h = 45,000m/h = 12.5m/second

Since it takes 12 seconds to cover the length of the train, its length is 12 x 12.5 = 150metres

In 12 seconds an object traveling 45 km/h would travel 45 / 60 / 5 = .15 km = 150 m

If it takes the train 12 seconds to pass a certain point then the train is 150 meters long.

let speed=s=45km/h , time=t=12 sec.
train will cross the point when its last compartment will reach that point. It means that in 12 seconds train will cover the distance equal to its length.

the formula for getting the distance is,
distance = speed* time

speed is to be converted into m/s because all units in a mathematical expression should be the same.
1km=1000m & 1hour=3600 seconds
substituting it in the given speed, we get,

45 km/h = 45*1000m/ 3600 seconds
= 12.5 m/s

hence length of the train( or the distance travelled by the train in 12 sec) = speed*time
= 12.5 m/s * 12s = 150 metres.
