Shingles is a reactivation of the chicken pox virus, so someone who has never had chicken pox or been vaccinated can get chicken pox from someone with shingles, however you cannot get shingles from them directly, but you may get shingles years after you get chicken pox.

If you're an adult then it would be best not to. You can still catch the virus from someone with shingles & it's much worse in adults than it presents in kids (as chicken pox).

You can be, if you wear gloves before touching the patient or any of his/her bedding and if you wash your hands directly afterwards. Washing and drying the linens at high temperatures will kill the virus on the fabric.
