Reminds me of this quote by Albert Einstein: "It is strange to be known so universally and yet to be so lonely."

---

At risk of getting too profound, here's something I journaled to myself awhile back (I dug it out when I saw your question):

"Sometimes among a congregation of friends and family, I feel anchored and alive, tapped into the thrumming vitality of human community.

Other times, though, the world takes on an eerie cast, and I feel as if I am meeting the eyes of strangers rather than acquaintances. Nothing looks right anymore. I feel lost and alone, completely cut off — adrift on a wide sea of impenetrable faces.

Even my closest connections in this life — my wife, my children, my most intimate friends — sometimes seem as unrecognizable as the syllables of a word that has been repeated too many times. While I study their expressions and listen to them speak, I am suddenly reminded of icebergs: Only the tips are visible, but far more lies hidden beneath...

...Sometimes the knowledge that these worlds exist leaves me joyful. There will always be new mysteries to unravel, hidden depths to plumb, an everlasting freshness continuing throughout the twists and turns of every unique relationship.

Other times it leaves me with the haunting truth that our understanding of others is only ever partial; the distance between our worlds seems painfully impenetrable. We see and know each other only in part, our fingertips brushing but leaving us unable to maintain a firm grasp. The longing to “know and be known” from the inside-out remains unmet."

--

Anyway, yeah... I think we can forge deep relationships, but it usually takes work, and ultimately at core we are still separate and somewhat alone.

the most popular person can feel alone at times. just because you have friends doesn't mean that you neever feel alone. everyone gets lonely at times. and then there are times that you just want to be alone. i think it's a difference between lonely and being alone.

The only person guaranteed to be with you for your entire life is yourself. There is always the possibility that everyone you know will be gone. It is important not to take for granted the people in your life because tomorrow they could just be a memory.

you are only as alone as you feel.
people have the ability to connect with one-another .
So all you have to do so you are not alone is get out and cooonnect with people.
This does not garuntee that they will live up to your expectations but they will connect at some level with you .
You are only alone if you do not get out around people and open up to the connections that await you .
Choose carefully to avoid being hurt or grow a thicker skin and quit being a whimp and realize people are who they are.

Well ...yah..naturally...friends cannot be with us like 24/7. They have a life too. Inspite of all things said about friends, and friendship, a day will come whn u need them and they are not there, so naturally ur on ur own.

Yes I get the same feeling but that probably is because most friends tend to be group friends and not soulmates.
