Im a really quiet person and no matter what i do i cant get myself to talk. it's ruining my relationships and its driving me crazy. it also lessens my confidence which makes me even more quiet. and yes, i know that alcohol helps but its not a good solution.

a really quiet person is usually more confident. Having to
talk a lot is a sign of insecurtiy and quiet people are MUCH
more interesting because you never know what they are thinking.

Yes, alcohol is definitely NOT a good solution. Don't use if for a solution of any of your problems... it only worsens things. I used to be extremely quiet (and at certain things, I still am). I think the way that I got over it is learning that each and every individual is special and because of that, I wanted to be a part of that. Each person has something worth talking about. You can take someone you really, really trust. Tell them your situation. Tell them that you want to become more talkative and confident. Let them help you out. You can start out by not being afraid to strike up a conversation. This is one thing that won't kill you. Just when you go to the store, in line while the cashier totals your stuff, say something like "Wow, the weather outside is (________). I can't wait till..." and you've taken step one. I was always afraid of litting things like this. I've talked to so many people just because I took a chance and you learn so many neat things about them... now I love to talk. I think people are so interesting that my major in college now is sociology. If you'd like some more help, or anything you can contact me.

well i can say this because i know .quit being so judgemental of yourself and others . Do not take what people say to heart and get a thicker skin if you plan on becoming more talkative because the more you say the more comments you will get back .
do not worry about what others think so what you beleive is true and be ready to take some criticism for it .
the more you do this the easier it becomes focus on what you are saying and listen to what is said in responce too.

I became more confident and learned how to speak in public at Alcoholics Anonymous. You start by telling your name only.

Try one on one situations. They are less intimidating.

What is the source of your lack of confidence? Try therapy. You don't have to be psycotic to see one.

Find an area of interest that you specialize in and then go to a group that shares the same interest. It will give you something to talk about and it would be god practice for other social functions.

maybe you should try to be around your close mates or family and practise talking to them. you should also try to particpate in leisure activities because it requires teamwork and to be successful you have to communicate to each other to win. this will help gain your confidence for sure. dancing helped me a lot and it was such a big step for me too because i had to perform infront of 10,000 people when i could've chosen to do sports or something smaller than dancing! but i'm good with it all now. goodluck

Fake it. I vomit before I have to talk to new people, but I fake confidance so well people think I'm perfect... Just pretend you're a goddess. Make yourself believe it, and watch every action you make, every word you say and every piece of body language.
