Only 32 teams get the chance to play in the world cup. India failed to qualify. Competition on the soccer field is intense, and India excels at field hockey and rounders not soccer.

Because the vast majority of political leaders and the masses in the country gave no time or thought to improve football in India. Only the eastern part and a miniscule part in the west are football lovers. The rest of the country are least interested in football as compared to other sports like cricket, hockey, etc.

India is still the underdog in football. They need a strong foothold on this game to get past the qualifying rounds. Moreover it is not as popular as Cricket/tennis in India. We need more than 1 B. Bhutia.

Right now, the game is just confined to small pockets in some parts of East and South India.
Also, India lacks "the proper facilities, training and exposure for the game". (Indian football team captain Bhutia said)

Is the public even aware of Indian footballers.We do so much of hoo haa about cricket,where in the world do we give the time for football.

gal.. like u evn i wld hav loved to c india play the fifa.. but guess this tym we will not the pleasure of seeing them play.. and the reason is that the could not even qualify for the final list...
but hope that nex tym they do.. n i thnk they will.. bcoz not the ministy of sports has awaken and are takin steps to improve the level of the game...
