A. The character is fine, and I'm sure I read and liked a book of hers a long time ago, but I recently read Blow Fly and thought it to be the biggest waste of paper this side of Danielle Steele.

B. Tempe is cool, smart and sexy. A bit full of herself, but that's okay. I love the Montreal references (I'm from there) even though now and then they're a bit implausible (Ryan just happens to live in Habitat?). Great research.

C. Kinsey rules! She's very human, smart and tough but not invincible.

D. haven't read them

E. Stephanie's great, and I love her friends, family, and love interests--the whole neighbourhood really comes alive. Stories are either repetitive or creepy though. (Course I read 5 of them in a couple weeks.)

A. The first book was okay, but I refused to read the later ones because Cornwell completely trashes the life and character of Scarpetta. There are enough sad things in real life. I don't really need more of it in my pleasure reading.

I haven't read Reichs or Patterson.

C. I really like Kinsey. She's much more real and down-to-earth. Someone that you might actually like as a friend or colleague. She tries to do the right thing, and things more or less work out for her even though she has had a tough time of things.

E. Plum was pretty funny. She's also quite accessible, but I never really found time to read the rest of the series after the first few. The "dilemma" with Ranger and Joe was kind of amusing.

The only other one I really read is some of the Eve Dallas series written by Robb (really Roberts). That series was okay. It's typical trashy romance/mystery. Eve is kind of weird, but she has gone through pretty tough times.

A. Loved the earlier Scarpetta books, but she lost me a few years back when the stories got darker and kind of dull.
B. Haven't read the books, but the TV version is okay, if a little too brainy and out-of-touch with the world.
C. Grafton was good, but I stopped reading after O. Too much of the same stuff.
D. Haven't read Patterson.
E. Plum is my favorite - she's funny (usually without meaning to be) and the books are easy/quick to read, with all of the characters well-developed. Evanovich rules!!

Anna Pigeon from the mystery series by Nevada Barr is missing. She's a park ranger, with a tough but vulnerable personality. The series starts with "Track of the Cat" for anyone who's interested.

I have read them all. I liked Dr. Scarpetta and Dr. Brennan but am not a great fan waiting for the next novel to come out. Lost interest in Kinsey around the letter P. Right now, my favourites are Lindsay Boxer and Stephanie Plum.

Also another one of my favourites is Benni Harper, created by Earlene Fowler. She is married to the police chief and runs a museum but always seems to become involved in the case. She has a grandmother who is as fiesty as Grandma Mazur in Stephanie Plum books.
