To the guy above: yes there were hundreds of different flags used by the colonists during the American Revolution, a famous one being the Sanke and logo "Don't tread on me," and another the tree and logo "An appeal to heaven" or "An appeal to God"
Anyway Betsy Ross did not make the first American flag with the 13 stars and stripes. It is an intersesting legend that has no proof.

13 Stars. One for each the original 13 colonies. This can also be seen on the buttons of a Marines Dress Blue and Alpha Uniforms. Each button has the 13 stars on it for the same symbolic reason.

0, there were not any stars on the first U.S. flag, because the Declaration of Independents hadn't been signed yet.
The first flag had a rattlesnake on it, and it said "Don't Tread on Me,"

one then two then three then four then five and so on each star represents a state that is a member of the united states. anyone can join if they vote to and the U.S.A. wants them .BY now we should have a lot more states start with little countrys and the ones surrounding them will soon join us.
