I think wasted medication is a tragedy, but given the risks of taking medication back it's necessary that drug stores/health services do not take back part used medication. This is for several reasons:

- The quality of the drug cannot be assured (it could be counterfeit, contaminated, or stored in less than ideal conditions)
- The expiry date of the medication cannot be assured

This means that there is a responsibility on people not to request medication they do not need, and to actually follow guidelines given on medication whereby the course should be completed, in the case of most antibiotics.

Common over the counter drugs like painkillers and the like generally last for a while, so theoretically they should always be fully used before they expire.

Don't be daft. There could be anything in those bottles. Everything would have to be analysed first - think of the cost then??!!
