There really aren't that many rules. The goal is to get to the finish before any of the other people. Some of the only rules are (a) having to do with false starts and (b) staying in your lane.
(a) False starts would be the most difficult rule to understand, because it's not as simple as leaving before the gun. Actually, if someone leaves his/her blocks in less than 0.1 second, he is charged with a false start. This rule is in affect because it is estimated that it takes the average athlete 0.2 second to respond to something. Thus if someone left before 0.1 second, they were guessing, and it is a false start.
Now, it used to be that everyone got two false starts, but now the IAAF has changed those rules. The first false start is charged to the field. What this means is that nobody is disqualified, but if someone false starts again (even if it wasn't the person who did so first), that person will be disqualified. This happened to Allan Johnson in the semi-finals of the 110m hurdles in the 2004 Olympics.

(b) The second rule is pretty easy, you can not interfere with other runners. If they feel that an athlete did, that athlete will be disqualified.

I hope that clarifies your question.

a) false starts- there cannot be two (2) false starts in any single race otherwise the last athlete to false start will be disqualified.

b) running in your own lane - you cannot step lane markers. If the judges believe you in doing so has gain an unfair advantage on other athletes you could be disqualifed.

c)shoes- the length of the spikes allowed for sythethic track is 9mm, if your spike are any longer you cannot wear it. Also the total amount of spikes allowed is 10.

d) At the finish it is my advise to finish with your torso if possible
