I know this is going to be the boring f*** of an answer but the school's policy is one of those things you won't get now but will appreciate when you look back in later life. The self discipline and focus these kind of rules instill will actually serve you well and the atmosphere, attitudes and behaviour it leads to in your school is almost certainly a million miles better than that in the vast majority of other more liberal schools. Don't be too quick to knock old traditions - they're often there because there's a good reason for them.
PS It's okay - I do know that there's no chance of you awarding this Best Answer till you're 40 !

The purpose of a uniform is to create a uniform appearance and to further the esprit de corps of those who wear that uniform. The principle is the same for any army, police force, school or other groups of people wearing the same clothes for the purpose of identification.
There is no point in "making things easy", developing variations or allowing partial or full dispensations, not matter what kind of practical reasons there might be. Uniform is uniform, and it has to be worn properly and as smart as possible. This gives both the individual wearer and the group an uplift and pride.
It is a fact backed by research that schools with proper uniforms produce better, brighter and more motivated students. There is no room for sloppiness or fashion wars, so most energy goes into studying, as it should be.

What do you mean by "all the rage." Are they merely a fashion accessory? Or is it something sick and twisted, like, if you wear a white headband you're a virgin, and if you wear a black one you've gone all the way? Because in my school they were wearing bracelets with that intention, and yes, they got banned, and rightly so. If something in the dress code dictates how to wear your hair, or specifically bans headbands, then, sorry, you're out of luck. If the dress code says nothing about wearing headbands or ponytails or anything else, then you should be able to wear your hair however you want. I say that as a symbol of protest and unity, you all put your hair in pig-tails for a week, like kindergarteners, and see what they have to say about that. Once it becomes clear that they are setting these guidelines just to control you, then I think you should bring it up to someone with authority. They have peer mediators, mentors, counselors, school nurse, gym teachers, parents. They are probably uncomfortable that despite uniforms, you've still found a way in your dress code to demarcate certain social groups. Seems pretty unconstitutional to me, to tell someone she can't wear a headband. What's next, they'll tell you what underwear you can wear under your uniform? Geezz... gimme a break!

A bit strange about the headbands, but I think he uniform bit is OK. Saying that, my school do exactly the same with other things so I'm not sure i really know any different.
Funny that schools are usualy insistent on a smart appearence and when something like black headbands come along, they ban it because everyone likes them!
Do a petition, and give it to your headmaster. Anonomously though, otherwise he/she might tell you off! Sounds like the type of person who would, if they ban headbands

I seems meaningless, but if you end up working in a cooperate structure, it is helpful training. I work in an office where some of the girls who went to public schools are outraged that they have to come to work dressed appropriately. To them jeans ands sneakers is the only appropriate dress. They ask stupid questions like what does that have to do with their work? Well if you work in a Miltie million dollar office building, where corporate image is everything, that's the work and the marketing business Image is everything, and the work does not even get to br commissioned if you can't create the right image. they are just trying to get you used to that idea. Anyone can work on Word Perfect or Excel. Only some people can do it in a professional way, and relate to other professional people what you are doing. Otherwise you end up in the cellar creating reports for some well dressed hot shot to discuss over a $100.00 lunch, on the company credit card..

I know it seems senseless now, and when you get to college it will seem more silly until you get a job. If you get a job at Yahoo, or Google it will remain senseless, as they are casual work atmospheres.
If, you end up regular conventional style job in business, just like the guys all wear ties and jackets you too will have to comply. I went to a private school and thought the same thing, but now in business when the public school graduates are all fussing about why they have to wear hosiery, and can't wear jeans, I am able to concentrate on business and earning promotions, because I was trained that way in HS. Believe it or not it is a great advantage.
Just look at all the complaints here at Yahoo answers, about women not understanding why they have to wear hosiery to work, while their bosses are wearing suits, ties, socks and oxfords.

And wearing a headband distracts u from learning how? it's silly really all the fuss they are making over it and it has probably distracted all of u more that's probably the excuse they are using on why u can't wear them. i could understand if it was facial piercings but a hairband! If i were u i would continue to wear the headband what's the worse that's gonna happen you'll get suspended then u can tell them that they are the ones that have stopped u from leaning over something that doesn't really matter!

I think its silly really, its only a head band to keep your hair out of your face. At the end of the day you are there to get an education so whats the big deal. uniform yes as it looks nice and smart but hair accessories ban its ridiculous. I think schools today care more on appearance than gaining a good education.

i agree that the headbands is crazy but the sports uniform? come on!
No school would let you come in your PE kit- my school would go mental if we did and we'd probably get expelled immediately- and they want everyone the same.
We have to ask permission to take our blazers off and thats only in lessons- otherwise it has to be on at all times. Listen to this- this is crazy- we have to wear a blouse and a blazer, with an optional jumper. If you wear a jumper and you are hot in a lesson- you cannot just take your blazer off, you have to take your blazer and jumper off and then your blazer back on! Surely this is wasting time and distracting us from our work?

assuming you go to a private school, stop complaining and be thankful your parents can afford it. There's many who would do well in private education but can't because their families just don't have the funds. If it's not a private school, be thankful the school has strict rules about some things. You could be a lot worse off. Either way stop complaining and start learning
