Outside the US it's 90 minutes with a 15 minute interval at half time. In the second half of the game the teams swap sides. If play has been suspended then extra time is allowed to compensate for this at the end of each half - typically 3 or 4 minutes. If it's a game in which there has to be a winner (such as a cup game as oppsed to a regular league game) and the score is tied after 90 minutes then a further 30 minutes of extra time is played with an interval after the first 15 minutes. If the game is still tied after playing extra time then there's a penalty shoot-out with each team taking 5 penalties each. If it's still tied then it goes to sudden death where penalties continue to be taken until one side misses.

the quarters are 15 minutes each, and there are 4 quarters. So the actual game time is 60 minutes, but with all the commercials, halftime, and penalties the game last about 3 and a half hours.

Ya this is the american football, not soccer im talking about.

since you're in the American Football segment - I will answer for American Football...

depending on the level of play...15 or 20 minute quarters.
2 quarters per half

30 minute half time.

usually the game takes longer due to delays, time outs, penaltys, and injury.

It's 90 minutes. But there's extra time after each half too. The referee decides how much time. Usually between 2-4 minutes.

In football time - four quarters and each quarter has fifteen minutes in it. The whole game has official time of one hour. In actual time - the average NFL football game runs close to 3 hours.
