Need to build a raft - ideas needed, please!?

any ideas on how to build a raft for a raft race?? please and thanks!!

i used to go to these camps when i was little and we'd always make rafts. here's what i remember:
1) use plastic barrels...they are light and bouyant (sp?)
2) don't use normal rope because it doesn't tie very well and gets heavy when it's wet. that nasty synthetic stuff is good
3)make sure that you reinforce the raft or else it falls apart as soon as you sit on it. i don't remember what we used for reinforcement though
