Yes it is perfectly ok. People who don't ask and people who don't demand to be paid what they are worth are always the ones at the bottom of the pay scale. You know the people, they are the ones that are shocked when they found out what everyone else is making.

When you interview for a job/position in a company they should tell you
1) what the starting wage is for the position
2) the hours you will be expected to work
3) the qualifications that are necessary for the job (if aplicable)
4) the basic tasks you will be expected to perform daily

if they do not tell you this, then there will be a time during the interview when you may ask questions. Sometimes it is best to ask these questions before scheduling an interview.

I've been told by someone who works in Human Resources that it is ok, but it shouldn't be the first and only question you ask!

Ask all sorts of other questions about the job and the company, and as a last question or maybe as an aside, ask about the wage - you have a right to know how much you are to be earning.

I generally don't ask until I'm offered the position - that way, I know that they want me, and it gives me some bargaining power. What most people don't know is that when an employer offers you a job, EVERYTHING is negotiable. If your employer is firm on the starting wage, ask about health benefits, vacation time, stock options, etc. Keep in mind - they picked YOU, and they're probably more than a little reluctant to move on to their second choice.

like da previews ppl said u should earn what u deserve. at my job they were going to pay me less than im getting now cuz i convince da guy to pay me more cuz i deserved more i had more experience and it only took one question

Definitely not on a first interview, and only ask on subsequent interviews if you are 100% CERTAIN you are going to get the job.

Yes...you need to know this as it is a vital piece of info as to whether or not YOU want the job. A job interview is not just for the employer to find out if he wants YOU but is also for YOU to find out if YOU want the employer!

you can generally ask for a general range, butif you want to get the job, waiting to the latter stages of an interview process is preferred.
