Leonid Stadnik 8'4 inches Tall
(Ukrainian: born 1971 in Podoliantsy, Zhytomyr Oblast, Ukraine) is a controversial claimant to the status of the world's tallest living man. He is a certified veterinarian and veterinary surgeon and lives with his mother in the village of Podoliantsy, Ukraine. He says he is 8 feet, 4 inches tall, weighs about 440 pounds (April, 2004) and is still growing. He also claims to have the largest palm size recorded, at 31 centimeters long. These claims have not been independently verified.

Robert Pershing Wadlow (February 22, 1918 – July 15, 1940) is the tallest human recorded in modern times for whom there is irrefutable, documented evidence. Wadlow reached an unprecedented 8 ft 11.1 in (2.72 m) in height, and it is said that he was still growing prior to his death, and 490 pounds (222 kg/35 stone) in weight before his death at the age of 22. His great size and his continued growth in adulthood were due to a tumor within his pituitary gland.

Xi Shun (born China, 1951) is a resident of Inner Mongolia and is since January 15, 2005 recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the world's tallest living man.

Measured as 7 ft 8.95 in (236.1 cm) tall at the Chifeng City Hospital, Xi does not have a known growth disorder — unlike the tallest man ever, Robert Wadlow, and the tallest living man claimant, Leonid Stadnik. Stadnik claims a height of 8 ft 4 in (254 cm), but his claim is controversial and not currently accepted by Guinness.

Xi Shun claims to have been of normal height until he was sixteen when he experienced a growth spurt for unknown reasons, and reached his present height seven years later. He was in the army before returning to Inner Mongolia where he works as a herdsman.

Currently the tallest man in the world is 33-year old Leonid Stadnik who lives in Ukraine. In April 2004 his recorded height was 8ft 4in (2.54m)

The tallest man on record is Robert Wadlow, an Illinois man who died at 2.71m (8ft 11in) in 1940 at the age of 22. The record may not stand for much longer, however. This week, Leonid Stadnyk, a 33-year-old living in a remote village in Ukraine, hit the news as the world's tallest living man. At 2.54m (8ft 4in), he is just 17cm short of Wadlow's record. In the last two years, he has grown 30cm.
