He is nervous or trying to hide something.

The one certainty is that he's nervous, for whatever reason.

It could be just general nervousness he experiences when talking to someone (since he might feel insecure about his ability to come across well in the conversation).

Like someone else said, if he's not married, there's a high likelihood that he likes you and doesn't want to screw it up.

I have anxiety in conversations with people I don't know well or don't want to look dumb in front of, and my friends and wife poke fun at me because there's a stock list of behaviors I show.

One of them is that I put my hand on the back of my neck or I scratch the back of my neck.

Ear-pulling isn't far from that.

I personally do look people straight in the eye even when I'm nervous, more as a way of overcoming the fear and to show I'm trying to connect; but many nervous/shy people don't or can't.

It's hard to see oneself reflected in someone else's gaze, if you're already feeling insecure.

If you can find a way to make things less direct or more casual (i.e., sitting down for coffee, or doing something together rather than a forced conversation), that might ease his discomfort.

Talking about yourself (to take the pressure off him and giving him some information that he can react to) or asking him general questions about things he likes might help too.

he wants to leave..when looking uncomfortable. .. he is bored or tired of conversation touching his ears.. and when he cant look in eye he is either guilty or doesnt like looking at you. or maybe you just asked a question and he is getting ready to lie. than all three would probably apply.

Not being able to keep Eye Contact is definitely a sign of a Communication Problem!

Whether it's a problem with Her...or a problem within Himself...He's not ready to be Open!

If he's Covering his ears... He probably doesn't want to hear anymore.

If his hands are Behind his ears...He's probably wanting to hear more.

He's hiding something from her. Could be something good, like he has feelings for her, could be something bad like he just stole $20 from her pocketbook.
