In medieval England there used to be a chaotic game which football is based on - all the yokels would kick a sheep's bladder around the place from one end of the village to the other.

However, other countries developed their own game involving kicking a ball so it's hard to say where it definitively started.

Football's origins has been disputed. From ancient china, to the aztecs to medieval England, there is evidence of games involving kicking objects about a playing area, so there is no stern answer.

However the modern incarnation of football we all know and love today is generally regarded and acknowledged as an English creation. This is because the rules of football were laid down formally in England in the mid-19th century. Fifa (the governing body acknowledges England as the birthplace of football)

So historically football's origins are up for dispute, but the modern rules of the game are English in origin.

hope that helps

football started in medieval times when two villages would play against each other. the aim of the game was to get the 'Ball' to the other teams village. this game was played across miles and was a cross between football and rugby, only it was much more violent than the modern games.

over time this game got refined into football and rugby.
