Marriage is a partnership not a one sided relationship, as such both the man and women should work to make the money needed to live a comfortable life. However, once babies come along things generally have to change but still its still a case of what is best for the family not what one party wants. If a couple are in the enviable position that only one has to work then great if that's what both parties want.

What does being married have to do with working? Of course both people in a marriage should work and contribute to the household. Unless there are circumstances that keep someone from being able to work.

Why not?

For that matter, why not go to work BEFORE marriage as well?

Why should the husband be forced to carry the burden of supporting the family alone?

Why should the wife be forced to a life of boredom at home?

Women can contribute a lot as part of the workforce. We have many abilities besides babymaking and house cleaning!!!!!

Yes, if the man stays at home or both parents work part time so the situation is that the parents are home enough to raise and supervise the kids. If parents aren't home often enough to do this then they should not have children in the first place. Read Clockwork Orange.

If she doesn't want to, and she doesn't need to? No.
If she does, why the hell not?

Many women can find fulfillment by staying at home, and tending to their house, marriage, and eventually their children.

Many can't.

Either way, what it really comes down to is a matter of choice - and women should have the freedom to make it.

I am very career orientated and wouldn't even consider dating someone let alone marry them if they were not supportive off this and wanted me to be a housewife!!!

I never want to be a kept woman and will always pay my way!

However when I had kids I would be a full time mum until they go to school.

Why not?
Do you think they are unfit to work after marriage. Not at all.
They will be doing more work than men, even when they go to work after marriage.

I did and still work. It's a good thing too because my husband suffered a stroke and I'm able to help support our family. If I was 'bare foot in the kitchen' then we would more than likely loose our house.
