I thought it was a dream come true when he started sleeping through the night at 3 months, and he's always been a really quiet baby content to sit and observe and fuss only if he was hungry, tired or needed to be changed. And he is still like that except when he wakes at 6 p.m.
I can pretty much predict when he will wake and go back to sleep but before he goes down for the night at 9 p.m. he just fusses and cries until i pick him up and he doesn't want to be put down until he falls back to sleep.
But i can't just hold him for 3 hours!
I try feeding him, burping him, changing him, reading, singing, playing with him but he just wants to be held!
I give him a bath just before 9 because that always puts him to sleep but i don't want to do that too early because then he'll just wake that much earlier.

Any suggestions, please!
Or could this just be a phase?

Give him his bath before his last feeding and for his last bottle put some rice cereal in it (cut a little hole in the nipple) make sure he is sitting straight up and burp him well after. This worked for my daughter.Good luck

professional mom is just wacky.dont listen 2 her.no u dont just sit there and hold him for 3 hours,u could never get things done if that was the case.what i started doing was... every nite at 8pm the lights go off,my then 8 week old would get fed, changed, burped and i would lie him down.my 2 oldest weren't allowed 2 make a sound.i did this every night wo fail.he's now 4 months old and i continue.he falls asleep between 7:30 and 9pm every night!!he sleeps between 7 to 10 hours wo getting up 4 a bottle.no pacifier or anything else needed.dont send them 2 bed w a bottle of anything its cause for tooth decay.then every nite u have to do that.help them become dependent and learn to soothe themselves to sleep.trust me it's better 4 both of u.lol!!

*Everything* is a phase. Give a child long enough, and he'll grow out of all the annoying behaviors--as well as all the cute or pleasant ones.

Why can't you hold him for 3 hours? You are the parent. You *chose* to bring this child into the world. Now, because he needs you, you "just can't"? I can guarantee you that there will be many times in the future you will remember how *easy* it was when he was 4 months old and you could solve everything by just holding him. If you can't deal with the easy stuff, how on earth are you going to survive his teenage years?!

Quite possibly your son has colic. The description of his behavior, not becoming this way until the three month mark, etc really does sound like colic. Sorry. My third (and last) had colic and I thought I was going to die. Literally. It usually ends around 6 months but MINE had it until she was 9 months!!!!!!!!!!!! All you can really do is try to comfort him. Try one of the Baby Bjorn's packs (or something similar). Using this will keep him close to you and at least give you your hands and arms so that you can get stuff done!

Good Luck.

Us parents call the 4-7pm slot the "witching hour" as babies seem to go feral in this timeslot, just when you want to get dinner ready!
It lasts till they are about 6

PUSH HIS NAPS BACK ABOUT AN HOUR AND DONT GIVE HIM HIS LAST NAP. GIVE HIM HIS BATH AROUND 8:00PM AND THEN PUT HIM DOWN. TRY TO KEEP HIM UP. THE LONGER HE STAYS UP DURING THE DAY, THE LONGER HE WILL SLEEP AT NIGHT.

My nephew did the same. He will finish it after a few months.
