I was on depo for about a year and I didn't think the shots hurt more than any other shot in the arm. I was taken it off though because I gained 50 pounds on it and I was exercising 2 hours a day, 5 days a week. Not normal. I also never had a period when I was on it.

I get allergy shots every four days, so I know about needles. I thought the Depo shots hurt quite a bit. They put them into your muscles, so it's very painful. You can either have it in your arm or your butt. I've had both and recommend your arm, if you have it. But please avoid this method of birth control. It's very dangerous and they will soon be taking it off the market.

It is just a pinch from the needle. On a scale of 1-10, pain is maybe a 3 for a few minutes. I have been on it for many years, but not for the ''typical'' reasons. I have cervical cancer and they give it to me so I don't menstruate. You can have the shot in your hip or your arm, I always choose the arm. It is easier to keep your arm active, rather than sit on a sore butt. In the arm, pain lasts maybe an hour,,,, in the hip , about 2 days,,,, you choose...

Yes!!! They can give it to you intramuscular in your upper part of your butt or in your arm. It hurts when they do it and it feels bruised for days. I hated the side effects from the shot. I would never recommend this type of birth control. I bled for months straight at first and then I didn't have a period at all. I also became depressed (a common symptom). Make sure you have looked into all of your options before trying this. They make it sound really great, but it wasn't for me.

no. although i had to have it in my hip...b/c if you do it in your arm, you might have a bad reaction. i couldn't move my arm for a while. literally. in the hip you don't feel anything at all.
