I also started giving my son solids at 4 months..... he was hungry pure and simple. As long as you are giving the right kind of foods I think it is ok. My son is now almost 13 months old and is showing no ill effects from the early start on solids!

Yes, you started too early. Before 6 months old, a baby can't digest solid foods. (Most babies are ready for solids between 6 and 12 months old.) And it exposes the baby to a number of risks--some of them potentially life-threatening. For these reasons, every health organization worldwide--including the World Health Organization, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and Health Canada--recommend exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months. If your doctor said it's okay to give solids at 4 months old, she/he was going against the recommendations of her/his own professional organization.
What do you mean by "you have a feeling he's an early teether"? How many teeth does he have? If he has more than 2, then you're right. If he has one or two, he's just about average. If he doesn't have any, he may be average (if the first one pops up in the next month or so) or late.

I started giving my preemie daughter rice cereal at 21/2months and then on baby food at 4 months. My ped. said to start her on food at 4 months and now she's 6mo and eats every flavor of baby food there is (5 jars a day plus cereal and formula)She now is ranked normal sized on the growth chart. So if he's hungry let him eat!

I think that it sounds to early not because of a teething issue but because an infants stomach and digestive system is not the same as a 6 or 7 month old....If you are having any questions or concerns about your baby's BM then you should talk to his pediatrician and I'm sure he can tell you what to do and what not to do. Thats what the pediatrician is there for...use him/her...get your money's worth!!

My daughter was born hungry, and nor matter what i gave her, it was never enough. she started on baby foods at 4 months, and was chewing on real foods from 5 months. she managed to steal a toasted cheese sandwich from her brother, and ate that - dont ask me how - she had no teeth.... If he is happy, then you didnt start too early; take your que from him....
