I was driving home and another car ran a red light and plowed right into my car. Her SUV was not insured, and my car was so old i didn't have collision insurance on it. My car is completely destroyed so i am not expecting to get it fixed.
I had to go to the hospital after the accident, and while I was very blessed not to be more injured than I am, the bills are really racking up and I feel like the person at fault should really be responsible for at least SOME of it.
Is taking this issue to court something that is worth the time/effort it will cost?

Hopefully, you reported all this to your insurance company; follow up with them. You will probably have to sue the other driver in civil court to get satisfaction.

I was on an accident and we rolled his suv many times I was hurt in the accident he had no insurance -the medical bills are really high and I had to sue him but he didn't show up for court so I have a judgement and pursue the money but have to track him down is another issue. He had no drivers license or insurance and was driving on a license plate that didn't belong to his suv. I pleaded out of all charges because he agreed to snitch out some people that were less then cooperating with the law, I contacted everyone police dept/prosecuting attorney/all the way up to the top and nothing was done. I do not have a drivers license because of medical reasons so there fore I could not go to my insurance company- the hospital charged me with all expenses and then told me that I had to have insurance even though I didn't have a license. I refuse to pay them and they are on my credit report and at this time they can stay there

File a police report, request assistance from the County that you live in under "Victims Assistance", they have some programs that should help you with your bills, and legal matters of making the person responsible. They also, and I think this is want I meant at first is, your County has a "Victims of Crime" division that helps in these matters, somebody not having insurence and you having the damage you have is a "crime", and report it as on. It is in the District Attorneys Office that will handle it. And by the way just for your information, THAT IS WHAT WE PAY TAXES FOR, providing these services when one needs them!!!! You qualify, it's your right, put your tax money to work for you, check it out and good luck!

Hope you feel better soon and all works out!

You did not specify which state the accident happend. Each State has it owns laws when it come to traffic. Was there a police ofc at the scene? was she cited for no insurance?
You can take him/her to small claims court, but make sure you have ALL of your documentation of ALL your medical bills. You can have an estimate of your vehicles worth BEFORE the accident, try KBB (Kelly Blue book) and present that to the judge.
Each state mandates that every vehicle be insure by the minimum, no matter how old the vehicle is. IS THE LAW

I would ask the other driver first to pay your bills. If they refuse then sue them. If they can afford an SUV and the gas for it then they should have coughed up the cash for insurance.

Where I'm from, injury attorneys and their clients make alot of money. Every other local commercial on TV is some lawyer asking "if you've been hurt or injured recently, call ..."

So yeah, take em to court and make them cover your bills and your court/attourney fees.
