Thus no contract signed etc. She's been with me a week and has, in a week's time not been able to complete 5 tasks that she should be able to complete in a day. This includes 1. typing up 1 document (1 page), 2. typing up 1 list, sending 5 e-mails, updating a database and sending 5 more e-mails. She came from a multinational co. (fifth largest in the world) - she worked there as a co-ordinator. Why is it that she can't complete 5 tasks - IN A WEEK?? Should I let her go? If yes, How do I go about it?

First i would adress the issues with her , being careful not to blame or upset her because a sour employee can do more damage than good. Second let her know that the reason she was hired was because she was expected to perform the tasks given to her in a professional manner and that is not being fulfilled with her and that if things do not change you will be in a position where you might have to let her go, now if you just want to fire her let her know that she is not meeting company standards and there is no need to keep her employed. If she says that it isnt her fault or something hear her ouyt but already she is not taking responsibility so i would drop her she could become a liability to your business

Have you checked this persons' credentials? Maybe she got out of the other company because it was too much for her. She probably thinks she can slack off now that she's not employed by them anymore. OR maybe you didn't make clear what is expected from her in the present position. I work for myself and don't have any need for employess...especially like her. You need to lay the law down to her. If she can't accomplish what is expected, then I would find somone else who's more suitable.

You are the boss...why did you bring someone aboard like that?? ouch! What does she do during the day? Anyways, you are the boss...shouldn't you know what to do? Be decisive. Be firm. Be fair. Maybe she wasn't clear on your expectations. Before you fire her, make sure that there are no misunderstandings. Who knows, maybe she could turn your company into a profit-making machine.

Let her go. Or you could try explaining what you expect from her and that you expect her tasks to be done in a timely manner. Maybe she didn't understand her time frame?

Tell her she is not meeting your expectations. Any severance package you give is up to you.
