FERRETS ARE CARNIVORES. They do not eat vegetables like rabbits. They need food that is high in protein...and cat food is usually not high enough in protein. I feed a mixture of a few different foods including Zupreem, 8 in 1 Ultimate and The Ferret Store brand. A great site to order food and ferret supplies from is www.theferretstore.com

Ferrets are NOT OMNIVORES!!!!
Ferrets are obligate carnivores and lack a part of the small intestines called the cecum which is required to digest fruits and vegetables properly.
Most ferret foods and/or kitten foods are adequate though not necessarily great. Do your homework. They need a diet high in protein and fat and low in carbohydrates. Here's a list of foods and their rankings for your information. Hope it helps.

Large amounts of fiber may lead to blockages in the intestines and can get them into trouble.
Mine enjoy an occasional raisin, just one, as a treat after we worked on our tricks, but not daily. I stick with treats especially designed for ferrets(Yogis are not good for them either). A diet high in sugar can lead to insulinoma down the road.
I give my guys a piece of egg or a tiny piece of cheese or meat off of my plate once in a great while as well.

Ferrets are weasels and would therefore be more of a meat eater. However, if you have ferrets, I would highly suggest you purchase ferret food from your local pet store as it contains all the necessary vitamins and minerals necessary for them. My ferrets do not really enjoy veggies, but will take an occassional piece of fruit.
