When you're very nice and helpful people will ride on your back all the time taking you for granted, and you won't have time to help yourself then.
When you're selfish people will be afraid of you and they'll have respect for you, but at the same time you'll lose all your social life and friends.
Being both is the best, Helping someone who deserves the help and being selfish to all who deserve it.

Based on my experience within the secluded 4 walled classroom, People who are selfish are only being noticed due to the fact that their showy attitudes attracts a lot of attention, They're not really respected, in reality their only respected due to fear and lack of confidence to stand up against a symbol of power...more like an evil dictator.
Respect doesn't really matter when your secretly hated by almost everyone in your surroundings. =(
A humble person doesn't really gets much attention, cuz maybe they secretly accomplished something, but decides to keep silent, rather than to go around bragging about it, earning irritated glares from other people behind their backs.
Another thing is that if your reputation speaks of humility, then most people will think there will never be anything of interesting whenever it concerns you. But the important thing is that nobody hates you, and theres a good chance that people might actually like your personality within the back of their minds.
Reminder: Your good deeds will not go unnoticed

yeah well the ones who seem to give on a large scale like celebrities who get their stories publisiced by the media are well known but the little people who help others' in little ways don't get noticed at all until they die and then everyone at their funeral is like 'oh yes bob was such a giving person -so unselfish' and it's too late because it's too late to tell him what a great thing he does. Being unselfish is defintialy the way to go and if everyone was like this i think the world would definlty be a better place however cliched that sounds i think it's really true. So give people and make a difference in someones life today!!!

Therese more satisfaction in being of service to those who need the it, and can accept. me its volunteering in hospitals and taking people off ward to talk and share experiences.
how much do you need and in the end how much can you take with you when it time to solve the greatest question that is who is right and who is wrong about where we end up, one piece of advice if you want to give there are people out there who will take advantage of your kindest so be careful

Giving is always a wonderful thing to do, but you can't expect anyting in turn. There are times for self preservation, but there are also times to give.
Just think about have good karma.

When come to giving mean you are self sufficient, so people take it easy oh you giving away your excesses only, no big deal, but how many have heart to give ? they don't think about that..

I agree. It's probably because people who help themselves only pay attention to themselves.

It's always better to be selfish by helping others to in fact help ourselves.
