While virtually every 7/11 is open 24/7, some are not. It also is required by law that businesses must have locks and just in case there is no one to work that day or for emergencies.

for emergencies.
Where I live 7-11 is locked at all times after dark. We have to use a drawer in the bulletproof window.

What if there is a riot in the streets outside! They need to lock up. Do they close on Christmas? They don't lock up so they can do nasty things in the back? oh sorry just kidding. Bad!! Bad!!

This is an old question that has been circulating for years. It is usually in those long lists of things that people email over and over of "what if" or "why does". How about coming up with something original?

Interesting question.
Perhaps it's psychological. You tend to feel safer knowing that you have the ability (or power!) to lock the door if you need to. :)
