In 1939 a political party (to be identified later) funded by Unions and mobsters, had to replace the income lost with the end of prohibition. Devious! A natural product that cost virtually nothing to produce multiplies in value a thousand fold. Mobsters see unions, are back in business, with this prohibition the government has made a new class of criminal to exploit and profit from. And industries competing with hemp by products profiting as well, the only true victim were, then and are now…The Citizen. As a side note in 1900 that same political party claimed another natural plant made the “blacks” unruly and UN manageable…and they outlawed cocaine. Isn’t it interesting how those same political “families” still in politics today, made their family money as bootleggers and drug runners? If that makes you think of Kennedy’s and the Democratic Party you would be correct on both counts.

I see no big problem with legalizing marijuana. It's legal in The Netherlands, and the country has less corruption and a better democracy/government than America does (check source). Of course that's just based on some numbers.
However, marijuana *is* harmful to the body and mainly the brain. It may have medical use as a pain killer, and I'd rather smoke it than cigarettes (lesser of two evils), but long term use of marijuana have many side effects, as do so many other drugs. That is one problem why marijuana is not legal. However, knowing the government, and the government is largely controlled by business...do you think cigarette companies would allow the legalization of marijuana? That is the bigger problem.

I don't see anything wrong with legalizing marijuana when no matter what we do; there will always be drugs of some kind on the street. When legalizing the drug; the government will make some money too by putting tax of some kind on it. I think the government want us to think that there is nobody in the government doing drugs when we the Americans know better. I know that drugs are bad but if we can't stop people from using it; why not make money on it legally?

I am in favor of decriminalization but not legalization. I think we should deter it's use with stiff fines but I hate to see a young person marked for life with a criminal record for making a mistake.
It is also a hugh waste of public resouces arresting, convicting, prosecuting, and jailing dope smokers for something that is more of a public health issue.
It is completely useless as a drug. It is not an effective pain killer.
There are better drugs available for every suggested indication
About the only medicinal application that has been found is it's ability to suppress the nausea of chemotherapy. In that instance a controlled drug is available with the active ingrediant in standard quantities. It is called Marinol.
On the negative side:
Marijuana is addicting - just ask the people in drug rehab who couldn't quit smoking it.
People who stop using it go through withdrawl symptoms.
It can cause halucinations and trigger psychosis in people with a predisposition to mental health problems.
It causes brain damage. (ever see a genius weed smoker)
It is a fat soluble drug that takes as long as a month to be eliminated from your body. Therefore the average pot smoker who smokes daily or weekly is always somewhat mentally impared (stoned). This causes underachievement in canabis abusers and a general lack of motivation. Chronic smokers fail to aquire new insights and social skills which can cause a relative immaturity or arrested development.
I don't think it damages your brain as much as excessive comsumption of alcohol but it does cause damage.
Weed will never be legal in America. Never Never Never
Who is going to vote for a politition who is in favor of more drug abuse?

The one main reason you will never see marijuana legalized, is that the Gov. would not be able to completely control it. They couldn't tax it because everyone would grow and sell it and they would miss out. Would you buy from a friend? Grow your own? Or would you pay more for it than you had to with a tax on it?Tobacco is taxed because the Gov. has more control over it. It can not be grown as easily. And it is taxed very hard. Imagine what the tax would be on legalized weed.............I wouldn't even want to guess.

While I sympathize with you I know the reason why it has not happened.
Existing business that provide both cotton and wood products would crumble. Hemp is a superior product in everyway. Marijiuana is the only reason they have to continue to make it illegal.
Consider paying off the high ranking legislature to free up the restrictions, thats what everyone else does.

Here's the options:
1 - Lock up an entire segment of society for smoking a plant that was growing long before laws or people.
2. Leave people alone and let them choose their own path.
Smoking pot is one of the least offensive and dangerous of things we are faced with in today's world.

Because it doesn't benefit anything positively! Why would we want to make our nation "stupider" than it already is? We need more brilliant, (even just smarter), people here! Legalizing alcohol was bad enough, why push the envelope? Wise up, it's just another way to avoid reality, plus today's marijuana is way stronger than it was 30 years ago and... it is addicting - both physically and phsychologically! It's NOT what we as a country need right now anyway, that's for sure! It just makes you stupid, and that's a fact!
