I don't have the money for a strong anti-virus program at the moment, such as Norton, and am looking for something to download instead. Can anyone suggest a really good, stable anti-virus program for free (not a trial version), and possibly suggest a place where I might download it?

Please visit www.grisoft.com for widely known Free AVG antivirus software. Its very gud software and it wont slow the processing speed of your computer. I also suggest you to weekly visit http://safety.live.com and run a "Full Service Scan" on your computer. This is Microsoft's newly launched online scan to detect and remove viruses, spywares, trojans etc.. Its very effective and reliable. Also, download Windows Defender beta 2 from www.microsoft.com and u will be protected from any spywares or spams. Keep updating your Windows Security Updates and u will find yourself well protected from any harmful threats.
Thanks!

Your going to get avg and such, but what ever you get use this online free scanner as a back-up check that your anti-virus system is working correctly. Its called Bitdefender and it might take a while to scan your computer depending on the size of your hard drive, its worth doing once a month.

If you have ORIGINAL Windows XP Software Installed,

Go to http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/viruses/wsc/en-us/default.mspx

I recommend you click on 12 Month Free Trial Subscription from Computer Associates, since it goes for 12 months.

But if you don't have ORIGINAL Windows XP on your computer,

Go to http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10543927.html?tag=lst-0-2

to download AVG Free Antivirus
