I think I was about 8. Out of us 5 kids, I was the only one that started to question EVERYTHING! On Christmas as usual, we woke up to find those red mesh store bought stockings, that come full of candy waiting for us as it's been for all the Christmases, well this particular Christmas, I waited 3 days after, then said to my mom: If there really is a Santa Clause, I will wake up tomorrow and find another stocking, just for me! Well later that day, my mom said she had to do an errand and will be home in a little while. When she came back with some groceries, I sneaked a peek in the bags, and down at the bottom was one of those candy filled stockings. Sure enough, the next morning there it was, hanging by my bed! All the other kids were jealous and I told my mom that I now believe there IS a real Santa, I lied just to make her happy, but I knew the real truth! Years later I told her about seeing that stocking in the bag and asked why did she do it knowing the other kids would get jealous, and she said she just didn't want the magic of Christmas to end for us kids just yet! Then she said: I had to go all over town trying to find another one of those damn stockings and thank goodness I found the only one left in a little out of the way shop she never visited before, thank you very much, (you little brat)!! We both had a good laugh out of that!

I was 8 years old. I had written a letter to Santa asking for an elf. And I was sure that I was good enough to get one. Not a real important one, just one that didnt work as hard and that Santa would not mind letting me take care of for a while. Anyway, on Christmas night, I heard a commotion downstairs and I just knew it was Santa.
I ran down there just in time to see my father and mother fighting and wrapping gifts.
They sent me to bed and the next morning they acted as if nothing had happened.
When I didnt get my elf, but the hoola hoop that my parents had sitting out the night before, I just knew that Santa, (if he did exsist) had not visited my house that year!
But to this day, my theory is that once you stop believing in Santa, he will no longer be visiting you. There is something special in belief that just has to be given to children, even if it means that one day it will be lost!

Like 5. I remember loving to help my parents shop for and wrap the presents (sometimes even my own) and put them under the tree! I don't think it ever really sunk in until I was like 7 that those were the presents I opened. I didn't think it was Santa Claus though...even though I bought the whole "Santa's on the roof!" and "Santa doesn't like the way you're behaving." thing when I was really little.

Santa Claus was associated with Christmas, a time of giving and gathering with family...I only learned of Santa thru story books or movies and they only meant this is how it can be shared thru-out the whole world..I always knew it was Mom and Dad that provided the gifts and its was our neighbor across the street that played Santa Claus...It has always been the spirit of the Holiday that I have appreciated.

Being a catholic, St. Nick, (an Actual person) is and remains a very real person. St. Nick and Santa are one in the same for many around the world. Knowing this, I'm not sure I have ever stopped in beleiving in Santa because I to see him as St. Nick.

About 2nd grade or so.
All the kids would make fun of those who still believed in Santa, so I realized he wasn't real. :(
I still pretended for a good 3 or 4 years, so I could still get presents, and make my parents happy.
