First "I am not a Doctor". I am a fellow sufferer from Bi-Polar Disorder, or Manic Depression. When I was first diagnosed with the illness I was prescribed the same medications. Effexor, or Effexorxr (time released Effexor)is an antidepressant. If my memory serves me correctly Effexor took a while to help. The affects of lithium as I remember took a while to come on.I don't know if you will feel any relief from lithium unless you are in the manic stage of your illness. Please don't give up if you don't realize relief from your meds. It sometime takes trying on several different ones before you get the right combination. If you look you will also find support groups.I wish you all the best. It will get better.

I took effexor for a year. I hated it. It is suppose to be an antidepressant. Be careful, as it works well for some, for me it was HELL IN A BOTTLE!!!!
I missed a dose one time waiting for a refill from the pharmacy. I thought I was going to die. I experienced weird dreams, dizzyness, nausea, extreme ringing of the ears, and mood swings. I really thought I would die from not having that one little dose. I was sweating, and could not breathe, feeling as if someone sitting on me. I had withdrawals for 30 plus days when finally going off this med.

Lithium will take awhile to work, I guess you may be taking it for some type of chemical imbalance in the brain. Even though the medication may work instantly, it takes awhile for your brain to get used to the change in the neurotransmitters. You may have a lack of serotonin, norepinephrine, or dopamine so those come into balance once you start taking yoour medications, but you don't see an effect until 6-8 weeks to see results.

Taking effexor was one of the worst things that ever happened to me. It litteraly made me crazy. I barely remember what happened, what I did or said, or anything durring the time I was taking it. When I got off of it, I felt like I was dying. They say the withdrawls are similar to heroin withdrawls, just toned down. I hope you do not have the same experiance as me.

glad I stumbled across ya, effexor is an anti-depressant. It's an extremely potent one at that. In my personal experience it was the worst thing I could have ever done to/for myself. I'd stop taking it. Good luck :)
Hope you feel better soon.

Effexor is the least effective of the Anti-D's out there. It also has the nickname "side-efexor" because of the large number of side-effects. Lexapro seems to be one of the better ones out there and also can boast the fewest number of side effects (particularly sexually related ones)
