IF your LUCKY, the officer might not show up and you dont even have to go through trial. However, usually they show up and are ready to fight themselves. As for getting caught at the races or with your lights off...with everything that has been going on with people racing and all the deaths of INNOCENTS that has happened in the last 5 years, it probably won't be easy. This is one of those moral times. If you HONESTLY feel that you were at fault and you messed up, be responsible enough to accept the consequences. If you feel you were not at fault, than give it a try but expect things to go bad if your found guilty. I'd try to find out how strict the city and departments are with crimes involving racing and racing aspects and use that information to make a decision. Remember this, "Its easy to do the Wrong thing. Its hard to do the Right thing." What do you follow?

Honestly if the police officer does not show the judge can and does go off of the statement on the offices copy he turns in. Most states (not knowing which you are from) have programs for "deferred" prosecution. Big word I know don't get scared. If you are worried and you know you were wrong you can request a deferment unless of course you have already used it, you only get one. If you get it (deferment) it will not go on your record unless you get another violation within a year. It is an easy way out especially if you actually did what you were cited for.

If you have had no prior convinctions before you might be able to ignore the ticket. My Mum had to go to court years ago for a supposed ticket but when she got to court, the case was thrown out as there was no evidence whatsoever. You should definately fight for the ticket if you know you have justifiable causes and have proof that it did happen. What I would recommend is to contact Legal Aid in your state or a solicitor and ask for their general opinion. You never know what might happen. Goodluck!

It will be hard to prove you had your lights on. I fought my ticket and lost.

I showed my evidence and the police came and showed his. There one witness kind a neutral witness. My court was on a Tuesday early in the morning. I with I would have studied exactly what the ticket was for more. My ticket was for not obeying the traffic sign. I thought they meant one thing when really they meant the lines on the road. It wasn't what I was prepared for. After thinking about it I could have defended myself better if I would have questioned the police on what exactly the ticket was for.

You should always fight a ticket. Usually the DA/ADA is too busy fighting more serious crime and they have no time to fight small issues like yours. So, you can usually plead it down to a non-moving violation or have it completely dismissed. I have had 1-2 tickets per year over the past 15 years, but zero points!

If you have a witness that will testify that he saw you turn your lights on, then you can win the case. Sometimes Cops just write tickets because they think you have money to donate to the police department. I would show up in court regardless, the Officer may not show up, and your case should be thrown out.

Look in the mirror amigo. Look at yourself the way the judge will. Are you a duffel bag with an attitude? Is this one ticket or two? You lose and you will still pay the fine and have the court costs tacked on also. They don't work for $8 an hour.

there are alot of stories about cops not showing up when you fight tickets. but it might have got around the force that you were caught driveing with your lights off. the cop that gave you the ticket in the first place might have heard about this and just wants to show up to make a bigger jerk of himself. your probably doing the right thing, but its so hard to telll with the legal system.

Yes you should fight it but don't count on the officer not showing up that is a old scenario things have changed they show up most of the time. But if you had them on then go make your case, good luck.

yeah fight the ticket. You really have nothing to lose and everything to gain because if they don't show up or you win your case then you can get out of it. Even if you don't get out of it ya might be able to get the charges reduced.
