If you were already behind the last person to start with then you were really the last person in the race.
So, you're only overtaking yourself, which seems kinda impossible

Obviously, the 'last person' isn't actually last until you overtake them and become second-last. Otherwise the sentence makes no sense.

If there are onlt 2 persons in the race, u will be the first. But if there are many you will be second last.

when u over take first persion u r at second last.
when u over take second person u r at third last position.
and when u over take finaly the ""last"" person then---------------
