I've seen some VERY optimistic Hollyweird idiots start some "End Poverty Forever" campaign. Recently, "Dr." Jeffrey Sachs posted a question that has been posted on the front page occasionally about "how poverty can be ended forever."

Excuse me, but this is the second dumbest question I've ever seen on this website. You can't end poverty, and I can't see why anyone would think they could try! This guy needs to get a real job and work with real morons so he can see why some people will always, and probably SHOULD stay poor!

Seriously, some of these trust-fund rich boys need to find something else to do all day...

You'll notice these people rarely contribute more than a few thousand dollars to end poverty. Bono can single handidly end poverty in an entire country in south america if he wanted with his millions. Bill Gates could purchase a new school and hire teachers for the entire state of Alabama if he wanted with his billions.
It's all just a photo op for hollywood producers so they can get invited to all the parties.

You're incorrect on at least one note. Jeffrey Sachs IS a Doctor, a PhD.

You can be a pessimist and say there's nothing to be done, so why bother. You can be an optimist and try something. To each his or her own. But the poverty he's talking about is the destitute kind, not that suffered by a minimum-wage earner but that suffered by 2 million refugees in Chad.

He may be a dreamer. Let him dream. Too many others just walk through life asleep.

It is an attainable and laudable goal. Join us and watch the world transform around you.
No i am not a trust fund kid. I was born in Mississippi to a farmer /mechanic and a preacher's daughter. I am always glad when people are grateful for their blessings and reach out to assist their fellows. If we all do this,no matter the income level, poverty will cease to exist. Until last year,i worked as a night auditor at a military hotel. Now i have just filed for my first patent on an invention that benefits both people and the environment. Each day i help others, pick up trash.Join us and create paradise on earth. All things are possible if you believe. Peace be with you.

It can ALWAYS get better... you must not be very bright.. We actually have gotten so much better than the past centuries.

We will never be able to end poverty, but we are going to try and get as hell close as we can to helping the people who are dying from starvation and things many of us take for granted.

The more brainstorming and actions to reach out to those in need, the better.

Being optimistic does NOT mean you are an idiot. It means you realise how helpless the situation is but you're not going to make it worse by feeling depressed or giving up on it. You're going to hold onto what ever hope and energy you have left to do what you need to do.

I hope we can lessen the horrors that poverty brings, and help whom we can.

We can still pray for an enlightment, something that we never thought of before, to help those in need.

How very kind of you to say that some people should stay poor. and they're morons on top of it. That's very compassionate of you. No wonder you don't understand the need to actually end something like poverty, disease or hunger. Maybe you'd like to flaunt more of your wealth around while people are starving? Get a life, chump-boy, and you might want to grab some compassion for your fellow human while you're at it.

Same way some morons believed we could put a man on the moon, and some other morons believed that black people and white people could go to the same schools...if you believe in something, and you can get other people to believe in it with you, then it can become a reality.

BTW, what was the FIRST dumbest question?

you're absolutely right, there is no way that you can END poverty. capitalism just wont allow it. Besides, there's always someone to compare your wealth to, so rather than ending it, they would maybe just raise the bar a little.

but yeah, ending poverty completely is about as much of a lost cause as trying to put an end to death.

the sympathy card and exploitation of the poor is the nastiest and oldest trick in the book. the poor will be lucky to get 1% of it.
White collar guys will let 500 million people starve so they can go yatching with a bunch of bimbos.

The ONLY guarantee of not having anyone poor is to live in a Socialist state.
That, or the day Jesus comes back to rule the earth.

God exist rather you believe in him or not. I think it is MORONIC not to. You have everything to lose if you don't and everything to win if you do...
