hey samantha:

when you pick out a hamster, are you choosing great big ones? hamsters don't live a long time---i'm thinking that the average lifespan for a hamster is around 2 years. if you take real good care of them some can live maybe 3 years, but that's about it. that's why i don't have hamsters anymore, they just don't stick around long enough.

anyway, if you're picking out the BIG hamsters, you're probably picking out the oldest hamsters. when you take this one back to the petstore be sure and tell the salesperson what is happening. have them pick out a little hamster for you. a little hamster should be younger and will be able to stay with you a lot longer.

most all the hamsters i ever had died of old age and this is how they died, with the seizures and all. i don't think you're doing anything wrong. you're giving them plenty of hamster food and they have a water bottle, right?

good luck to you sweetheart. you'll do ok. i'm sorry you've had trouble with your pet hamsters.

I don't know hamsters...but I don't think is a good sign when two die so close to each other.

You should, even if you take the poor thing back to get your money returned, call the vet and ask what they think is the problem.

It could be from old age or from something like a virus or something...so do (even if it was just old age) clean the cage well before you reuse it.

But anyway. If you try again with a new hamster...good luck. Maybe the third one will be healthy and last longer.

I know it is a terrible thing watching your pet die. I also had a hampster that I had to watch die. I would definately take him back to the pet store and demand your money back. I know you are probably not wanting to hear these type of answers because you love your hampster but unfortunatley there is not much you can do unless you want to take him to the vet. Maybe they can help you with this. Maybe you should call your vet and get some advice. They may be able to advise you on what to do. Good luck. I hope everything works out for you.

2 hamsters in 2 weeks clean with vinegar and hot water the whole cage before you add a new one and clean everything you have put into that cage there is something toxic there causing the seizures and killing the poor thing

It is having seizures because it is not used to its new environment. it is in a new place. there is nothing you can do but let it die.

POOR THING!
