I found a ferret, and I dont know what to do with it. It is illegal to possess a ferret in California. I do not want him to be killed. What do I do? Where do I take him?

Call the California Domestic Ferret Association, follow the link above and do exactly what they suggest. These wonderful little clowns are too sweet to be destroyed just because they are ferrets.

Assuming that you do not have ferrets of your own, you will need to keep him comfortable until the CDFA come to get him.

In the (short term) meantime, he will need high protein kitten food and fresh water, you can let him live in a small room, like the bathroom, for a few days, but be aware that he will do his business in corners, so be prepared with a pile of newspaper, or a litter box.

Don't forget to play with him and spend time with him, he will get frightened if you just toss him onto the room and shut the lights off.

DO NOT release it to the wild. Ferrets are domestic animals and cannot survive in the wild for long. Your best bet is to call animal shelters and vets. Try this website for more info: http://www.ferretsanonymous.com/

to comment on "taylah".......DO NOT SET IT FREE! ferrets are completely domesticated & can NOT survive in the wild. call a ferret rescue & arrange to relocate him/her.

Try going to this website...they should be able to help according to what is written there...apparently special circumstances can be handled through them. Good luck and thanks for caring enough to ask for help
