Actually soccer is an acronym (each letter stands for a word) which means Sport Organisation for Collective Contributions and Equal Rights and america and canada are NOT the only ones that call it soccer many other countires do also poland is a fine example!

Sport Organisation for Collective Contributions and Equal Rights (SOCCER) is anacronym created in South Africa and it has NOTHING to do with the origin of soccer (the game).

The word 'soccer' originated in England in the early 1900s when organized soccer was called Associated or 'assoc' for short. Because of the accent in some British dialects, an r was pronounced at the end for "assoc'r" which eventually became 'soccer'
