Many pagans have their childhood roots in christianity. It takes a lot to grow past this, but it often happens when a parent or care taker is strict and literal in their interpretation of the bible. This throws contradictions in the face of the child and they are forced to believe either what they are told to, or what they can see to be true with their own eyes.

These children often reject christianity completely. If they are raised to believe that all of the bible is absolutely true then all that it takes to allow them to grow past this is to show that one or two things in the bible are false.

The vital piece in this is that the child must be presented with a chalenge to their beliefs and then presented with a choice. Not all children will chose growth, many will place their fingers in their ears and refuse to believe anything other than what they are told to believe.

Some people that get to a point where the realize that change is needed is when they first and foremost come to accept that change is needed. They no longer need validation from others to make a choice. They accept change as their own interpretation of life, most likely through spirituality, or self thought examination from discovering their own identity. Some people are scared of life and want to remain "hidden" to protect their feelings and too not face life and real as it is, it can be too much for them mentally to absorb. So they continue to put on a front (for lack of better words) or stay stuck in a mode that they feel more comfortable with. Hope that helps!

For some people it is a crisis or when they hit rock bottom that causes a change to take place; for others it is the natural process of maturity that causes change to take place; yet in others a deeper spiritual relationship will cause a person to change.
Those that don't get it; don't get it because they either do not want to, they are too immature to get it; too thick-headed to get it or they lack the mental tools to get it in some way.
Some never ever get it and just keep running into brick walls. Eventually you would think they'd get tired of running into brick walls; but if they do not realize that they are the cause of running into the brick wall; they will stay stuck and remain the way they are. We call those people "jerks"

Experiencing the consequences of ones actions. If things keep going wrong a person will eventually realize he's doing something that attributes to the constant failures. He begins to analyze his actions and starts to realize what changes to make to cause a shift in the consequences. It's all part of growing up. Some people don't quite 'get it' though and they are the ones who seem to fail in life even when there is nothing else to attribute the failure to but himself. There are those who fail in life due to extenuating circumstances, such as job loss, illness, business failure, etc.

it needs time...and trial and error..... and encouragement and love and patience. People always want to disocver their won way in life and make their own faults....specially teens go to a phase where they dont wanna aks help from parents anymore and feel so confident they can do it all on their own. But when they are in deep trouble they know who to turn to and they gradually learn its ok to ask for help and listen to advice from people who care.

Doing what makes you happy, knowing it's right, and being able to ask complete strangers. Good luck.
