The question is what two numbers, when added together, equal 196.4 million, and the two numbers need to have a difference of 35.4 million, with Celine Dion's revenue being the lowest number.

196.4 - 35.4 = 161.
161 divided by 2 = 80.5
80.5 + 35.4 = 115.9

It tells you 196.4 million is how much they made TOGETHER. Then it's asking you how much they made separately, and the revenue of each, when added together, will obviously equal 196.4, but must have a difference of 35.4, since Celine Dion made that much less than Springsteen. Make sense?

80.5 = Celine Dion's revenue
115.9 = Springsteen's revenue.

B+C=196.4
C=B-35.4
so B+B-35.4=196.4
so2B=231.8
so B=115.9 and C=80.5
Bruce makes 115.4 million and Celine gets 80.5 million.
