I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix, the fan for the air conditioning is not working. I already checked the fuse and relays and they are all o.k.. Anybody knows whatelse can be wrong? I want to have a better idea before sending the car to the dealership for service.

It could be the a/c blower motor resistor. It's mounted right behind the blower motor under the dash behind the glovebox. Usually, the resistor going bad will still allow the motor to work, but not at all speeds... if none of the speeds work, your motor itself could be bad. You can reach both the resistor and the motor if you lay on your back in the passenger leg area. It's not comfortable, but you can replace it yourself.

Fan motors are run alot, so the motor can eventually burn out. Happened to me a few months ago. I have a Bronco, so it was easy to replace, but the tight fit under the hood might be too much for you. If you can find it and get it out, connect some wires directly to your battery and try it out. If it runs like that, try shaking it or turning it different ways. It will probably cut out on you, which means the coil is melting. If it works no matter how you bang it, shake it or turn it, then you have a bad wiring problem or a bad switch. Go for the switch next. They're cheap, you can buy one and replace it to see if that works. probably about $12 for the switch. I payed $27 for my fan motor. Not a bad amount to pay considering mechanics will charge you $60 just to get a look at it. Then they'll charge you for parts and labor.

The fan could be located in 2 different places. In a can under the hood that's attatched to the firewall, or under your passenger side dash board. If it's the latter, you've got your work cut out for you, so get started early on a day off and don't take breaks.

Good luck!

Oh, one more thing: Find the + lead to the fan and check the resistance to ground. If you get any resistance other than 0 ohms or NO LOAD, there's something blocking the fan from turning...a bird???

You have a bad blower or the motor is no good. Take to the dealer and get it replaced before you have more problems.
